Our journey takes us through the High Atlas Mountains via the historic Tizi-n-Tichka Pass. At 2,260 meters high, the size and beauty of the mountains cannot be overstated. The pass is also dotted with ancient oak forests, walnut groves, traditional Berber villages and picturesque valley meadows roamed by free-ranging goats and sheep. The pass leads to a high desert lunar landscape, home to Ait His Benhaddou, where he will have lunch. This UNESCO protected village has been featured in movies like Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth and Gladiator. Morocco has long been a Hollywood favorite, and you’ll also have the chance to visit former movie sets that are still standing. Then drive through the lush Draa Valley to the historic village of Tamnougart. Here you will stay in a Moroccan riad bed and breakfast and enjoy tea service and a full his dinner.

Start your day with breakfast at the Riad Terrace followed by a walk through the Tamnougart Oasis. Afterwards, we will pass through the Draa Valley again, heading to Zagora and Tamegrute. From here, follow the highway to Muhamid’s desert outpost. This is where most of our guides were born and where they feel right at home when the pavement ends. Travel through 50km of desert landscape along a handcrafted ‘path’ created centuries ago. Pass the Iriki Oasis, a traditional watering place, and pass through the Iriki Salt Flats and the Erg Chigaga Desert. This amazing series of golden desert dunes stretches for 40km and reaches a maximum height of 300m. Our Sahara Feeling Camp is surrounded by timeless sand dunes. Spend the night at camp, enjoy first-class Saharan hospitality, and enjoy a New Year’s Eve dinner. Music, bonfires and, of course, a fantastic starry sky welcome the New Year.

The sunrise at Erg Chigaga is not to be missed. Golden light bounces over the dunes in a truly spectacular way. After breakfast, your day with dromedaries will begin. Sitting on a dromedary and gliding through the dunes is an amazing experience. A few hours of trekking through the dunes will bring you to a tamarind grove. Here in the shade, your guide will cook a traditional nomadic lunch of kebabs and freshly baked bread. From here you can return to the camp through the dunes to enjoy a peaceful sunset and enjoy a wonderful dinner and tea.

After breakfast, continue your journey along the old Paris-Dakar rally track. Pass through the dry Iriki salt lake again to a truly unique mountain of fossils. Once back on the trail, head to Tazenaft. Have lunch here and have a great opportunity to collect the rugs for which Morocco is world famous. This region is known for producing the finest woven rugs.
